In a significant move to protect its sacred sites, Bali is stepping up enforcement of the plastic ban within major temple complexes. This initiative aims to restore the sanctity and cleanliness of these spiritual landmarks.
Strict Regulations
Visitors are now prohibited from bringing single-use plastic water bottles, bags, and food wrappers into temple areas. Reusable water stations have been installed at key locations to ensure visitors stay hydrated without generating waste.
Community Involvement
Local pecalang (traditional security guards) and volunteers are being deployed to educate visitors and enforce the new rules. "We want our guests to respect the gods and the nature that surrounds them," says a spokesperson from the Besakih Temple management.
Positive Impact
Early trials of the stricter enforcement have shown a visible reduction in litter. The initiative is part of a broader "Green Bali" roadmap that seeks to eliminate plastic pollution from the island by 2030.
